Important deadline: Canadian Book Collection - Hosted by the Consulate of Canada in Barcelona

The Consulate of Canada in Barcelona will hold a “Pre-Sant Jordi’s Day”, the most important holiday for books and literature in Catalonia to be held on March 4th, 2010. The event is designed to promote Canadian titles and to encourage the purchase of rights by copyright managers and agencies.
This general collection is open to all genres.
If you are interested in showcasing your titles in Barcelona please ensure that your materials (including any related promotional materials) are delivered to the following address no later than February 22, 2010:

The AECB is seeking a Coordinator, Communications and Marketing

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator, Communications & Marketing is responsible for initiating, executing and supporting the AECB’s communications and marketing activities through its website and publications.
Specific areas of responsibility are as follows:
o Closely follow the evolution and development of new technologies in publishing (example: digital publishing);
o Develop and execute an overall website strategy for the AECB that integrates attractiveness and ease-of-use with uniformity and homogeneity, and that effectively markets the books published by Canadian publishers and the programs and activities of the AECB;
o Develop and coordinate the implementation of technological improvements to the AECB website;
o Post information, and keep the website current and up-to-date;
o Coordinate the production of publications such as Rights Canada, fair directories, and the Association’s annual report;
o Supervise the distribution of publications world-wide, and the development of contacts for support and distribution;
o Prepare preliminary budgets for web development, production and distribution of catalogues and directories;
o Research, write, produce and distribute the AECB electronic bulletin (AECB News);
o Participate in national and international trade shows, as requested by the Executive Director;
o Develop strategic communication plans and guidelines.
Qualifications, knowledge and competency requirements
o Post secondary degree in communications, business administration or other relevant field of studies;
o Good knowledge of the Canadian book publishing industry in both English and French sectors (good knowledge of the book publishing industry in another country an asset);
o Strong knowledge of new technologies in publishing;
o Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the communications environment;
o Superior editing and paper- and electronic-based production experience;
o Good organizational and interpersonal abilities, and a good team player;
o Computer literacy: CMS (Content Management Systems), MS Office, databases;
o Fluent in English and French, oral and written.
For this position, the Association for the Export of Canadian Books offers a starting, annual salary of $44,000 plus benefits.
