Export Marketing Assistance Program (EMAP)

EMAP to be administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage in 2010-2011.

During a special AECB Board Meeting held at the request of BPIDP on May 19, 2009, it was announced that as a result of a summative evaluation, an overlap was identified between the formula-based Aid to Publishers and Export Marketing Assistance Program (EMAP). Both components use a formula to distribute funding, based on export sales. According to BPIDP, recipients must therefore submit applications and report to two administers for the same activities. Beginning in the financial year 2010-2011, aid for export provided to publishers under EMAP will be administered by Canadian Heritage. Specifically, the funding currently provided to the AECB for redistribution to publishers (approximately $3.2 M) under EMAP will now be provided directly, and in its entirety, to recipients by Canadian Heritage.

Canadian Heritage stated this change does not affect support to the AECB for other activities including market intelligence, Canada Stand representation, the delivery of the Foreign Rights Marketing Assistance Program (FRMAP) and other services.

The objective of the Export Marketing Assistance Program (EMAP) is to assist Canadian publishers in their efforts to develop and strengthen their sales to foreign markets (rights and finished products) and to expand foreign markets for their Canadian titles.
